This year the Walk for the Animals, presented by Renewal by Andersen, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott. Hundreds of people and their pooches will walk the 1-mile or 5-K course at this premier pet lover's event, featuring a plethora of vendor booths (a veritable "barketplace"); an animal wellness tent with low-cost vaccinations and microchips; music, food and, new this year, a "Strut Your Mutt" contest hosted by Magic 99.1.
Day of Walk registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the opening howl for the 5K starting at 9 a.m.
But why wait to register? Instead, you're invited to attend the Walk for the Animals Kickoff Party this Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YHS, located at 1625 Sundog Ranch Road in Prescott, off the Prescott Lakes Parkway.
At the kickoff party, you'll be able to register for just $25, and you'll receive a Walk for the Animals bandanna (suitable for fashion-conscious pets or humans), and a free Papa Murphy's of Prescott pizza.

All walkers and their "packs" are eligible to earn prizes based on their money-raising results. All proceeds will help support the many Yavapai Humane Society life-saving programs. YHS saves thousands of homeless pets throughout Yavapai County and since implementing its "no-kill ethic" euthanasia has been eliminated in our community as a means for controlling pet overpopulation - making the quad-cities region the happiest place on earth for pets!
Why register at the kickoff party? Because starting the day after, registration will be $30 until April 1, and then $35 until the day before the event. Registration event day will be $40. Youth walkers (11-17) are only $20, and kids 10 and younger can walk with a registered walker for free. Those who can't attend the kickoff party can register online at www.yavapaihumane.org/walk and still take advantage of the early price breaks.
Walkers wanting to dress their pooch up can participate in the Magic 99.1 Strut Your Mutt Contest for just an additional $5. The contest features three categories: Best Trick, Best Costume, and Owner-Look-a-Like. Contests will be judged by a panel of local celebrity judges and the winners will take home a trophy.
